Kualapu`u School’s 5K Team Races on Oahu

The Kualapu`u School 5K team raced against a strong field of Oahu runners in the Honolulu 5K for Kids held on Sunday, April 27. Keahe Ross was the top finisher from Molokai finishing in 25:01 for third place in her age group.  The next three Kualapu`u School runners ran the course together finishing within 23 seconds of each other.  First in the pack of Kualapu`u runners was Namaka Ross finishing in a time of 28:37, good for 10th in his age division.  Close on his heels came Kapili`ula Naehu in a time of 28:59, good for seventh in the girl’s 11-12s. …

Harlem Ambassadors Tour Coming To Molokai

We are pleased to announce that the Molokai Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Harlem Ambassadors on Tuesday May 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Barn at Molokai High School. Hoops and hijinks are on their way as our very own local challengers, the Molokai All-Stars, take on the Harlem Ambassadors in a comedy basketball show the whole family will enjoy.

The Harlem Ambassadors offer a unique brand of Harlem-style basketball, featuring high-flying slam dunks, dazzling ball-handling tricks, hilarious comedy routines, music, dancing and games for the kids.

Farmers Baseball Wins MIL Title

After a rained-out game Friday, the Farmers Baseball team took the Maui Interscholastic League (MIL) Division II Championship title on Saturday with a 12-0 five-inning win over St. Anthony.

Molokai senior David Rapanot led the victory by pitching a one-hitter and batted 4-for-4 at the plate. The Farmers finished the season with a 7-0 record, and will be the only MIL team represented at the upcoming state tournament.…

Softball Wins MIL Championship

The Lady Farmers’ softball team is headed to states after defeating the Lanai Pinelasses last weekend in an exciting, close win at Duke Maliu Regional Park.

Homes runs and a killer comeback led Molokai to 12-11 victory against Lanai last Saturday. The win claimed the Farmers the Maui Interscholastic League (MIL) Division II Championship crown. The team is already thinking ahead to the State Tournament on Oahu May 6-9.

Molokai High School (MHS) freshman centerfielder and pitcher Brooke Keliihoomalu said “it’s indescribable” to be going to state her first year on the team. She said she and her teammates will give it their all at the State Tournament.…

Molokai and Lanai High Athletics Fundraiser a Homerun

Downtown Athletic Club Hawaii News Release

The Downtown Athletic Club Hawaii’s (DACH) second annual benefit fundraiser, “Cheers for Molokai and Lanai High,” held on Jan. 29 outside Murphy’s Bar and Grill, raised $131,500 to benefit student athletes from both schools, and donations are still coming in.

DACH Board of Directors President Keith Amemiya said the outpouring of support from across the state was emotional and overwhelming. Of the proceeds, $85,500 went to Molokai High and $46,000 will benefit Lanai High’s athletic program.

DACH arrived at the financial allocation with the agreement of Molokai High and Lanai High athletic administrators based on the respective numbers of student-athletes served and certain donations that were earmarked by sponsors.…

Molokai Basketball All-Stars

Seven Molokai basketball players were named by The Maui News as some of the top players in the Maui Interscholastic League Division II. The honorary list is compiled by the newspaper every year, after selections are made by MIL coaches. This year, Molokai High sophomore guard Hepuakea Falealii was picked as The Maui News MIL Player of the Year for her division.

Among the four others joining her on the girls all-star first team is Molokai senior forward Ilana Meyer.

On the all-star second team is senior Tiara English and junior Lehiwa Pedro, and their Molokai teammate Taylor Keliihoomalu was given honorable mention.…

After a school year of Farmer athletics, spring sports are serving to ace the 2013-14 school year and represent the green and white all the way to the finish line.

Tennis
As MHS tennis returns for a second season under Head Coach Dean Chow, some are gaining their first court experience while others are returing to the team with high expectations to win “game, set, match” at the Maui Interscholastic League (MIL) Championships in April.

Last year’s dynamic duo, Pono Chow and Kamanu Pascua, earned the MIL doubles title, and received a spot in the Hawaii High School Athletics Association [HHSAA] Championships.…

Swinging into Spring Athletics

As the dust settles and winter sports begin to cool down, Molokai High School (MHS) spring athletics are just warming up, lacing up their spikes and practicing their swing for their pitches and putts.

Softball
The Lady Farmers are entering the spring season with hopes to not only match last year’s title as Division II Maui Interscholastic League Champions, but to also beat it by winning some games at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) state tournament this year, said Coach Coco Augustiro, in her 10th year with the program.

The team began conditioning and prepping for the season in January, while starting organized practice in February.…

New MHS Athletic Trainer

Dalyann Barnett arrived on Molokai from Ohio on a Monday two weeks ago, and started work as Molokai High’s new athletic trainer the same day.

The school’s athletes have been without a trainer to ensure their health and safety during training and sporting events since last year. Before that, it had been two years since an athletic trainer had worked on campus. In situations like these, when injuries occur, it’s essential to consult specialists such as knee surgeons in Melbourne to ensure proper care and recovery.

“Dalyann is a gift from heaven,” said MHS Athletic Director Hoku Haliniak. “We now have someone on staff that will be able to assist our student-athletes and their injuries.”…

Making History on the Mat

Molokai High senior Rizpah Torres-Umi is the first MHS wrestler to ever be named a four-time Maui Interscholastic League (MIL) champion. And she’s now ranked the number two 125-pound wrestler in the state this year.

“When I want something, I’ll go for it and I’ll get it,” she said, before competing in the state event on Friday and Saturday.

Molokai Lady Farmers had a strong team showing at states. Rizpah was accompanied to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championships by seven teammates – Karley Kaulili, Desiree Corpuz, Esther Torres-Umi, Alexandria Simon,
Saydee Makaiwi, Cendall Manley and Jasmyn Davis.

On the boys’ side, Iokepa Albino and Kuikamoku Han represented Molokai.…
