Lady Farmers Hand Seabury 1st Loss

The Lady Farmers Basketball team got a well-earned split with the Seabury Hall Spartans last  weekend at The Barn. Both teams fought hard and put on an entertaining show in their two games. On Friday, the Spartans had a 25-24 lead at the half but pulled away in a close game to win 41-36 and improve their record to 7-0. The Lady Farmers were led by Sydney Rawlins with 13 points, while Kaitlin DeRouin added 11, Camille Ledesma had seven, and Tai-Li Tangatailoa had six.

On Saturday, Seabury again had a one point lead at the half, 15-14, but Molokai (2-4) had a good second half and won a close game 34-31 and handed the Spartans, now 7-1, their only loss of the regular season.…

Football Beats Seabury in Home Opener

 

The Molokai Farmers Football team started their regular season and their quest for a Maui Interscholastic League Championship three-peat with a 35-26 win over rival Seabury Hall last Saturday at the MHS field. It was the first game with a newly installed football scoreboard, and large crowd was on hand to support the Farmers. Molokai was led by senior quarterback Shraedon Naeole-Starkey who threw three touchdown passes and ran for another touchdown. Sophomore Kaimana Nakayama caught two touchdown passes and was also successful on all five extra points. Senior Braiden Asuncion and Junior Jayse Lalim-Rillon had touchdown runs also, while junior Chevy Augustiro led the defense in tackles and recovered two fumbles.…

Girls Volleyball Remains Unbeaten

The Lady Farmers Volleyball team traveled to Lanai last weekend and picked up two more wins over the Pine Lasses to improve their league record to 4-0. On Friday, Molokai won in three sets 25-15, 25-15 and 25-18. Shae McCutcheon led the team with 11 kills and 4 aces and Taye Mowat added seven kills. Grace Ringor had 27 assists and four aces also.

On Saturday, the Lady Farmers continued their good play beating the Pine Lasses in three sets again 25-14, 25-10 and 25-21. McCutcheon and Mowat added nine kills each and Ringor had 19 assists.

Molokai will now travel to Seabury for two big matches at Olinda this weekend.…

Levi Horner-Villa Lives His Baseball Dream

 

Molokai’s Levi Horner-Villa is returning to Linfield College in Oregon for his sophomore year and continues his collegiate baseball career with the Wildcats. Horner-Villa had a very successful freshman season and batted 286 with four home runs and 13 runs batted in. Linfield had a 30-15 overall record and they were 19-5 in the Northwest Conference and made the playoffs.

Over the summer, Horner-Villa had the opportunity to travel to Japan to play with Hawaii’s Island Movers baseball team and he said it was the trip of a lifetime.

“Traveling to Japan was very fascinating and I would like to say thank you to all whom supported me especially the ones who donated money towards my trip,” he said.…

Tennis Hosts Seabury

The Molokai High School Boys and Girls Tennis teams hosted Seabury at their Ho`olehua courts last weekend. On Friday ,the girls lost 3-1 and the boys lost 5-0. On Saturday, they lost again by the same scores.

Head Coach Amanda Labriola was proud of her team’s performance.

“This weekend went awesome and our girls all played amazing and I think they are definitely proud of themselves,” she said. “Our boys also put up a good fight but Seabury has a very strong team both the boys and girls. Romelyn Ragonton and Cassandra Ragonton won their matches both days and Genevieve Kikukawa went into third set on Friday and gave it everything she had.”…

Judo Brings Home Wins

The Molokai High School Boys and Girls Judo team got their season started at Kamehameha High School on Maui last weekend. Cameryn Kahalewai won in the girl 122-pound weight class. Cameryn is the defending league champion. Maria Angst was the girl’s winner at 98 pounds. Other girls finishers were Makani Davis in third at 115 pounds and Payton Kaalekahi third at 120 pounds. For the boys, Kaohu Albino finished third at 145 pounds.

The Judo team will have competitions every weekend in the month of April before the MIL Championships on April 29 at Baldwin.

Coaches are Tilana Kawaa and Lihau Maioho.…

Baseball Earns Regular Season Title

The Molokai High School Boys Baseball team cinched the regular season championship last weekend on Maui, winning games against both Seabury and St. Anthony. The Farmers have won 44 of their last 45 MIL league games and the team is now seeking its fifth straight league title.

Last Friday, the Farmers (8-1) beat Seabury 5-1 at Eddie Tam Field in Makawao. Nainoa Kaahanui struck out six and allowed only four hits in the victory. The next day, Molokai beat St. Anthony 16-3 at Maehara Stadium in Kahului to finish the regular season on a strong note. Aaron Rapanot had three triples and drove in four runs.…

Home Wins for Boys Volleyball

The Molokai High School Boys Volleyball team won its fourth match in a row with wins over Lanai at The Barn last weekend at Ho`olehua. On Friday the Farmers (5-1) lost the first set before defeating the Pine Lads (0-8) 14-25, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-14.  Molokai was led by junior Kaina Adolpho with nine kills, sophomore Peter Keliihoomalu added eight kills, senior Michael Sterner had 16 kills and seven aces and senior Kawena Augustiro had 24 assists.

On Saturday, the Farmers won in three sets, 25-16, 25-17, and 25-15. Keliihoomalu had 10 kills, Sterner added seven kills and three aces, junior Keison Poaha Alcon had 22 assists and three kills and senior Lekili Burrows added five kills.…

Mixed Success for Basketball on Lanai

Both the Boys and Girls Basketball teams traveled to Lanai last weekend for a series of tightly-matched games and a win for both the Farmers and Lady Farmers. The girls are also prepping to host the MIL Division II Championship tournament this weekend at home.

In the first of the final two games of the girls’ DII regular season, the Pine Lasses defeated the Lady Farmers 60-41 Friday night. Molokai was led by senior Brooke Keliihoomalu with 18 points and senior Nadia Augustiro had 9 points. Lanai was led by senior Tyana Soberano-Foster with 25 points; Jana Ohashi added 12 points and Kayla Garcia had 9 points.…

MHS Athletic Recognition Banquet

Two weeks ago, athletes from all sports in the fall, winter and spring categories were honored on stage at the Molokai High School Athletic Department’s annual banquet. Individual champions were also honored as were the Boys Volleyball runner up DII State Championship team, the MIL DII Champion Boys Football team and State Wrestling Champion Cendall Manley. Manley will have her picture placed in the MHS Hall of Fame in The Barn.
Athletic Director Lee DeRouin and his staff did an awesome job on the banquet and the awards, and everyone enjoyed a roast pork dinner prepared by Mike’s Catering.…
