Baseball Earns Regular Season Title

The Molokai High School Boys Baseball team cinched the regular season championship last weekend on Maui, winning games against both Seabury and St. Anthony. The Farmers have won 44 of their last 45 MIL league games and the team is now seeking its fifth straight league title.

Last Friday, the Farmers (8-1) beat Seabury 5-1 at Eddie Tam Field in Makawao. Nainoa Kaahanui struck out six and allowed only four hits in the victory. The next day, Molokai beat St. Anthony 16-3 at Maehara Stadium in Kahului to finish the regular season on a strong note. Aaron Rapanot had three triples and drove in four runs.…

Home Wins for Boys Volleyball

The Molokai High School Boys Volleyball team won its fourth match in a row with wins over Lanai at The Barn last weekend at Ho`olehua. On Friday the Farmers (5-1) lost the first set before defeating the Pine Lads (0-8) 14-25, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-14.  Molokai was led by junior Kaina Adolpho with nine kills, sophomore Peter Keliihoomalu added eight kills, senior Michael Sterner had 16 kills and seven aces and senior Kawena Augustiro had 24 assists.

On Saturday, the Farmers won in three sets, 25-16, 25-17, and 25-15. Keliihoomalu had 10 kills, Sterner added seven kills and three aces, junior Keison Poaha Alcon had 22 assists and three kills and senior Lekili Burrows added five kills.…

Mixed Success for Basketball on Lanai

Both the Boys and Girls Basketball teams traveled to Lanai last weekend for a series of tightly-matched games and a win for both the Farmers and Lady Farmers. The girls are also prepping to host the MIL Division II Championship tournament this weekend at home.

In the first of the final two games of the girls’ DII regular season, the Pine Lasses defeated the Lady Farmers 60-41 Friday night. Molokai was led by senior Brooke Keliihoomalu with 18 points and senior Nadia Augustiro had 9 points. Lanai was led by senior Tyana Soberano-Foster with 25 points; Jana Ohashi added 12 points and Kayla Garcia had 9 points.…

MHS Athletic Recognition Banquet

Two weeks ago, athletes from all sports in the fall, winter and spring categories were honored on stage at the Molokai High School Athletic Department’s annual banquet. Individual champions were also honored as were the Boys Volleyball runner up DII State Championship team, the MIL DII Champion Boys Football team and State Wrestling Champion Cendall Manley. Manley will have her picture placed in the MHS Hall of Fame in The Barn.
Athletic Director Lee DeRouin and his staff did an awesome job on the banquet and the awards, and everyone enjoyed a roast pork dinner prepared by Mike’s Catering.…

Softball Finishes 8th in State

The Molokai Lady Farmers Girls Softball team played in the DII Softball State Championships at Patsy Mink Field on Maui two weeks. After falling in the first game against Kalani 5-2, the Farmers rebounded to defeat Konawaena 11-1 in five innings and advanced to the consolation championship game against the Kauai Red Raiders. Molokai came up short in the consolation championship game losing to The Red Raiders 14-4 and placing 8th in the state in DII Girls softball.

Head Coach Kawehi Horner was proud of his team’s season.

“It was as an awesome season with lots of growth for the players and the coaches!”…

Spring Sports Preview, Part II

As seven Molokai High School sports teams gear up for the spring season — some with competition already under their belt — we complete a look at what’s in store for the teams in the months ahead.

Boys Volleyball

The Molokai Boys Volleyball team is experienced this year with 12 returnees and six seniors on the team. Head Coach Hale Domingo said he is excited and has high hopes for this year’s team.

“I have heavy upperclassmen with this team, so I’m very lucky to have such an older team where they can control the practices as we’re trying to get everybody involved,” he said.…

Tennis Earns Team Victories

The Molokai High School Girls Tennis team earned its first team victory of the season by defeating St. Anthony 4-1 in a Maui Interscholastic League girls tennis match Saturday at the War Memorial courts in Wailuku. In the boys match, the Farmers also won 4-1, improving to 2-0.

On Friday in the girls singles division, Paula Maroto won her match, while Michelle McGuire and Althea Cariaga won their doubles match. On the boys’ side on Friday, Shyloh Kawaauhau-Puaa and Christian Ragonton each earned a singles win, and Kaiea Dowling and Preston Pascua-Kahookano, and Noeau Likua and Dathan Bicoy won their doubles matches.…

Softball

“We are excited to see what the future holds for this year’s softball team. Manley Wins State Wrestling Title

Molokai wrestler Cendall Manley claimed the island’s sixth ever state championship in the sport last weekend on Oahu. She was one of 10 Molokai High wrestlers representing at the event, and one of eight to medal. The girls team finished seventh in the state out of 42 teams.

“I was speechless when I actually won and feel so blessed that God gave me favor,” said Cendall. “I am so honored that I got to represent Molokai in this way!”

Five wrestlers qualified on the girl’s side and all five Lady Farmers got a medal. Cendall Manley was State Champion in the 168 weight class, Alexandria Simon was third at 138 pounds, Esther Torres Umi was fourth at 145, Kelsie Lee Bicoy Juario was sixth at 132 and Martika English was sixth at 184.…

Farmers Face Final Weeks of Seasons

The Molokai High School Boys basketball team finished the regular season with an 8-4 record and in second place behind regular season champ Seabury. They will travel this weekend to Maui for the MIL DII Tournament at Seabury where they will face third place Lanai in a semifinal game on Thursday. Seabury will face Hana in the other semifinal.

Head coach Mike Kahale is getting his team ready for the tournament and is ready for the challenge.

”We are looking forward to MILs this week. Your regular season record really means nothing at this point, everyone makes the playoffs…. We have proven that we can compete and win with anyone in our division, but there has also been some inconsistency where we have not performed at our best.…
