Girls Volleyball Gets Home Wins

The Molokai Lady Farmers Girls Volleyball team hosted the Lanai Pine Lasses last Friday and Saturday at The Barn. Spectators were allowed in for the first time in almost 22 months and The Barn was rocking again!

Molokai got the sweep to finish the season at 7-3 and will be the third seed in next week’s Maui Interscholastic League Division II Girls Volleyball Championships. Friday was senior night for Molokai’s two seniors Lia-Chae Meyer and Jordyn McCutcheon and the Lady Farmers got the win in three sets, 25-11, 25-13 and 25-21.

On Saturday the Lady Farmers again won in three sets 25-8, 25-14 and 25-16.…

Teams Prep for Season Finals

Molokai athletes had the weekend off last week but this weekend is going to be exciting.

The Lady Farmers Girls Volleyball team (5-3) will host Lanai (4-4) on Nov. 26-27 at The Barn to finish the Maui Interscholastic League  regular season. Friday night’s game will be aired live on Akaku Molokai at 7p.m. and will also be senior night for Molokai’s two seniors, Lia-Chae Meyer and Jordyn McCutcheon. Head Coach Mahea Rawlins has her team ready for a big weekend against the Pine Lasses with the MIL Division II Girls Volleyball tournament starting on Dec. 1 at Maui Prep.…

Greig Len Wai is the 12th and final Ace winner for the Hui O Kukui Golf Club. Len Wai shot 39-37 for a gross total of 76 and with his 12 handicap his 64 net tied him with Club President Rick Schonely. After Schonley missed a par putt for a win on the first hole, Len Wai birdied number two and got the victory. Len Wai now qualifies for the Ace of Aces tournament next month. The winner of the December Ace of Aces tournament will replace Schonely as the club president for the calendar year of 2022.…

Molokai Football Gets Historic Win

The Molokai Farmers Football team traveled to Maui last Friday for a controlled scrimmage with the Na Ali’i of King Kekaulike High School. Head Coach Mike Kahale and his staff and players made history by winning 22-8 and got their first 11-man football victory in the school’s history. Molokai won the Maui Interscholastic League’s eight-man championship title for five straight years before having no league football for the past two years because of the pandemic.

The MIL eight-man season was set to move forward this year but after Hana and Lani football teams cancelled their teams this season due to COVID restrictions, Kahale secured this one and only game and road trip for his team.…

Girls Cross Country Runs on Maui

The Molokai High Girls Cross Country team traveled to Upcountry Maui Saturday for an MIL race at Kamehameha Maui. 

Junior Kailani Bicoy received another top 10 ribbon with her ninth place finish and a time of 24:31.3. Junior Tenley Akutagawa finished 41st with a time of 29:25.09.

Head Coach Kabbie Bicoy-Juario was proud of her runners. 

“These girls have been working very hard and running practices in the mornings before school has paid off,” she said. “They both beat their best times in this race and have improved a lot. Now it’s time to put all what they have learned together and get two weeks of good practice before the MIL Championships at Baldwin on Saturday, Nov.…

Football to Play King K in Season’s Only Matchup

The Molokai High eight-man Football team has been practicing since the new school year started in August. After a shutdown for a bit because of new pandemic regulations, they resumed practice in September, hoping for a season and the chance to win their sixth straight MIL title. But things again hit a roadblock for the team, with Maui Interscholastic League play essentially getting cancelled. 

“When Hana cancelled their season early on, and then we got word from Lanai the day after our first Green and White scrimmage that they had cancelled as well,” explained Head Coach Mike Kahale.…

Girls Volleyball Sweeps Maui Prep

The Lady Farmers Volleyball team won two matches at Maui Prep when they traveled to West Maui last weekend. Molokai got the sweep winning in three sets on both Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s score was 25-8, 25-7 and 25-14. Lia-Chae Meyer had eleven kills and one ace, Jordyn McCutcheon had 10 kills, six aces and two assists and Daisci Burrows had 30 assists, two kills and five aces.

On Saturday, the Lady Farmers (5-3) did it again in three sets winning 25-8, 25-15 and 25-14. Meyer had 16 kills and five aces, McCutcheon had nine kills and four aces and Burrows had 28 assists, two aces and two kills.…

Legendary Molokai golfer Ronald “Naka” Nakagawa is the November Ace winner for the Hui O Kukui Golf Club. Naka shot 38-40 for a gross score of 78. With his 13 handicap, his 65 net got him the victory. Nakagawa now qualifies for the December Ace of Aces tournament.…

Strong Finish for Cross Country

The Molokai Boys Cross Country team ran at Lahainaluna last Saturday and Head Coach Mahina Hou Ross liked what he saw from his Farmer runners. 

“Our boys ran hard and did well. Namaka’s shoes came off during the race, so he finished the race barefoot,” he said. “Now it is time for some more training before the MIL Championship race on Thanksgiving weekend at Baldwin High.”

Senior Namaka Ross finished 10th with a time of 19:25.8, sophomore Jericho Adolpho ran in 19:52.6 for 16th, and junior Johnson Harris finished 41st with 23:31.6. …
