New UH-Hilo Pharmacy Dean Visits Molokai

For 16 years, Molokai Drugs has been a preceptor site for interns from the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICOP) at the University of Hawaii-Hilo. As you can imagine, it was an honor to host Dr. Rae Matsumoto, the new dean at DKICOP, and Dr. Jarred Prudencio, the professor in charge of internships and experiences, on their first ever trip to Molokai. They were hosted by Molokai Drugs’ staff and were able to see first-hand the benefits and challenges of managing a rural, community pharmacy on an island with 7,000 residents.

Snake Found in Shipping Container

A live snake was found in a shipping container on Molokai the morning of Jan. 8, while it was being unloaded at a hardware store in Kaunakakai. Maui County Police on Molokai were called to the hardware store shortly after 8 a.m. Arriving officers shot and killed the snake with a pellet gun. The snake measured about 20-inches long and has been identified as a non-venomous gopher snake.

Staff from the Molokai Invasive Species Committee (MoMISC) held the dead snake at the hardware store until Maui Plant Quarantine Branch inspectors from the Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) arrived on the island just before noon.…

Molokai History Project News Release 

These are busy days at the Molokai History Project as we have more and more visitors, repeat guests, helpful comments, wonderful donations, and folks volunteering to be docents. Our walls are full, our display cabinets constantly rearranged to make room for new items. We want to thank everyone for taking an interest in this project and supporting us. Substance Abuse Counseling Cohort

Kealaho’imai is now accepting applications for the 2024-26 Kealaho’imai Substance Abuse Counseling Cohort. This two-year academic cohort offers a series of seven free courses required to earn two Certificates of Competence. This opportunity is being offered through UH Maui College’s Human Services program and sponsored by Hui No Ke Ola Pono. Grant funding covers all instructional and textbook costs. 

The deadline to apply for non- UHMC students is Dec. 3, 2023. For current UHMC students, the deadline to apply is Dec. 17. Note that seats are limited and may be filled prior to the application deadlines.
