E komo mai! Partners In Development Foundation, Tutu and Me Traveling Preschool invites you to a free annual kick-off Event for caregivers and keiki ages 0 to 5 years old. Please join Tutu and Me Traveling Preschool at our open house opportunity to experience a fun-filled day with Tutu and Me Staff and to learn and understand the importance of early childhood education and how to provide quality learning opportunities and experiences for our keiki.

The event will be held on Friday, March 27 at the Kualapu`u Community Center from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Scholarships for Senior Art Students

Lahaina Arts Association News Release

Lahaina Arts Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is proud to announce its 37th Annual High School Senior Art Competition, Exhibition and Scholarship Awards Program.  Graduating High School seniors from Maui County, including the island of Molokai, are welcome to submit their art for exhibition and consideration in the scholarship competition.  Entries must be postmarked by April 4 or can be dropped off in person Saturday, April 4 or Sunday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Old Jail Gallery (Below the Old Courthouse) in Lahaina under the Banyan Tree.

Each participating High School Senior may submit one entry for each of the five categories — Painting, Drawing, Three-Dimension, Photography, and Mixed Media. …

The ARC of Maui County Board of Directors is pleased to announce Robert Lane as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer.  He joins ARC with a vast knowledge of the developmental disabilities community with experience ranging from Executive Director for Special Need Camps to Administrator of a 64 bed ICF/IDD facility in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Rob joins ARC at an exciting time with the recent licensing from the State Department of Health for our newest group home on Molokai.  This five bedroom home is the first state licensed domiciliary home on the island.  Residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities will receive 24-hour support from staff who are trained to meet the needs of each individual resident. …

Kalaupapa Exhibit One-Day Free Showing

Ka `Ohana O Kalaupapa News Release

Molokai residents will be offered free admission to the Kalaupapa Photo Exhibit showing at the Molokai Museum and Cultural Center on Sunday, March 15, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The exhibit, titled “A Reflection of Kalaupapa: Past, Present and Future,” was developed by Ka `Ohana O Kalaupapa. It features 100 framed photographs of the people of Kalaupapa and their family members from as early as 1884 through current times.

The museum is normally closed on Sundays, but Noelani Keliikipi, Executive Director of the museum, the Board of Directors and museum volunteers all wanted to make sure Molokai residents had the opportunity to visit.…

Dementia Education Workshop

On Wednesday, March 11, Na Pu\`uwai Senior Enrichment Center Adult Day Care (ADC) will be sponsoring a workshop for family caregivers and paraprofessional nurse aides who provide in-home and respite care, focusing on dementia and the impact this disease has on their loved ones. Dr. Michael Cheang, a University of Hawaii gerontologist, and Ms. Daria Gray, a speech-language therapist based in Oregon, will lead the session. They will discuss dementia in depth, providing effective tools and strategies to help caregivers cope with the challenges of caring for someone with dementia. Additionally, they will cover important techniques for supporting those afflicted by the disease, all while promoting health and well-being for both caregivers and those they care for.…

One out of four girls, and one out of five boys are sexually abused.  Research suggests primary prevention education can increase your child’s ability to self-protect, report, and seek help..

In partnership with the Hawaii Sexual Abuse Treatment Center (SATC), Consuelo Foundation’s Molokai Child Abuse Prevention Pathway (MCAPP) currently offers a series of lessons at a few Molokai schools on personal safety, respecting boundaries, recognizing unsafe situations and getting help.

FoodCorps is currently recruiting service members throughout Hawaii who are passionate about teaching children what healthy food is, where it comes from, and expanding hands-on nutrition education programs. This includes Sust`aina ble Molokai, which is recruiting for new service members to serve on Molokai at our island schools.  The deadline to apply for the 2015–2016 school year is March 31.

FoodCorps is a national organization addressing childhood obesity and food insecurity in underserved communities, and currently operates in 16 states and the District of Columbia. Through its partnership with AmeriCorps, FoodCorps recruits, trains, and places emerging leaders, known as service members, into limited-resource communities for a year of service.…

The Mayor’s Office of Economic Development and Maui Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce the nominees for the upcoming 2015 Mayor’s Small Business Awards, which will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26 at the King Kamehameha Golf Club’s Waikapu Ballroom.

This year, there are two nominees from Molokai – The Molokai Dispatch in the Exceptional Small Business of the Year 0 to 10 Employees category, and Rawlins Enterprises in the Exceptional Small Business of the Year 11 to 35 Employees category. Rep. Mele Carroll Passes Away

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former state House Representative Diana “Mele” Carroll.  She passed at 3:50 am on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015 with her family at her side.  At this time services are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Carroll was re-elected on Nov. 4, 2014 to begin her sixth term, representing the 13th House district.   The 13th District is a true canoe district that includes East Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kaho`olawe and Molokini.
