Flying for the Animals

As the island continues to recover from the Kona Low storms, a group of animal lovers are making sure the needs of our four-legged residents are not forgotten. Most recently, their mission included receiving donated animal feed at the airport. 

“It’s a beautiful collaboration between hearts around the islands who know that Molokai is always left out,” Maraya Pierro of Rescue Kitties of Hawaii said. “But not anymore. It’s time to change that and help the animals. This community is such an animal-loving community.”

The effort to supply the island with animal feed began after the storms in March, when the Oahu branch of Rescue Kitties of Hawaii reached out to her offering pet supplies.…

Workshop Preserves Personal Stories

Family stories usually have a way of being passed down through generations. But sometimes when an elder passes away, stories are lost. A workshop on June 19 aims to preserve Molokai stories and teach people of all ages how to do it for themselves.

“It’s so important for us right now to start to document the stories of our Kūpuna. A lot of them are passing away already, and they hold so much experience and knowledge,” Melia Kalawe of Ka Ipu Makani Cultural Heritage Center said. 

She said workshop participants will learn how to conduct interviews with family members and access digital resources that will help them with the process.…
