A belated but sincere and heartfelt mahalo from the Riel-Mollena family goes out to everyone who attended our beloved Philip Gideon Marcelo Riel’s Sunset Funeral Service on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Whether you stopped by briefly to extend your aloha or stayed and attended his Sunset Funeral Service, your loving support, words of encouragement and generous spirit was greatly appreciated!

To those of you who were not able to attend, we felt your love and support through your home visits, flowers, phone calls, FB/IG/text messages, personal conversations, beautiful cards and delicious meals.

We especially want to thank the family members and friends who travelled from the mainland, interisland and even a foreign country to support us with their love, hugs, kisses and tears.…

Molokai Applicants Sought for Liquor Commission

Molokai applicants are being sought for a vacancy on Maui County Liquor Commission. Interested Molokai residents should submit applications as soon as possible.
Applicants must be available to attend meetings on Maui. These are held at 9 a.m., usually on the first Thursday of the month. Maui County pays for allowable travel expenses.
Responsibilities include hearing public testimony, reviewing policies and standards. Panel members make recommendations and decisions that impact Maui County. Positions are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Maui County Council. While no monetary compensation is provided for serving on a board or commission, the public’s participation helps provide an important government service.…

Lindo Promoted to Battalion Chief

The Maui Fire Department is proud to announce the promotions of Henry Lindo Jr. to the rank of Battalion Chief. 

Henry “Hanale” Lindo Jr. joined the department in 1994.  During his career, he was stationed in Paia and Kahului as a Fire Fighter I.  With his promotion to Fire Fighter III in 2005, he served in the Fire Prevention Bureau as a Public Education Officer and a Fire Inspector on both Maui and Molokai.  In 2009, Lindo was promoted to Fire Captain, working first in Kaunakakai, Molokai, then in Ho’olehua, Molokai.

Hanale is a member of the Maui Incident Management Team, the Critical Incident Stress Management Team and the Molokai Fire Task Force. …

Farm-to-School Coordinator for Molokai Sought

Through a partnership between the University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) and the Hawaii State Department of Health, a new position has been created for the island of Molokai. The purpose of this new position will be to provide educational support for farm-to-school activities in Molokai schools.

One of the key responsibilities will be to conduct a community needs assessment and community inventory of farm-to-school programs and activities. Responsibilities may include support for school gardens and agriculture programs, education and youth leadership, and local procurement of food for school cafeterias. Developing relationships and networking locally among educational institutions and food producers, and other food system stakeholders will be an important focus.…

Molokai COVID-19 Meeting Live Streamed Wednesday

County of Maui News Release

Mayor Michael Victorino will be hosting a live stream meeting online to update Molokai residents on COVID-19 on Wednesday, March 18 at 2 p.m. The Mayor previously announced holding in-person meetings but canceled them to hold virtual meetings instead.

Mayor Victorino will be joined by Dr. Lorrin Pang from the Maui District Health Office. An announcement on where residents can watch the live stream will be provided as soon as possible. Robotics Team Looks to the Bright Side with Drone Racing

High school drone pilots tested their skills and speed in a first-ever drone racing tournament last Saturday. Despite the disappointment of hard-earned upcoming competitions being cancelled due to COVID-19, the MHS Robotics team took on a new challenge to showcase Robotics Ed-ucation and Competition (REC) Foundation aerial drone flying.

Visually guiding a drone through a series of obstacles across a large gym while standing in one place is no small feat. The six members of the MHS Robotics team helped each other do it as they took turns piloting and “spotting” — or giving their teammates verbal instructions for how to navigate through the course when sight lines became challenging.…

Molokai COVID-19 Update Livestream Friday

County of Maui News Release

The County of Maui will be providing COVID-19 updates to Molokai and Lanai residents on Friday via a live stream on Akaku Channel 53 and the County of Maui Facebook page.

Mayor Michael Victorino will be joined by Dr. Lorrin Pang from the Maui District Health Office to talk about the coronavirus and answer questions from the public. Questions pertaining to Molokai and Lanai residents can be emailed to Mayors.Office@co.maui.hi.us or asked on Facebook during the stream.

Previously planned for Wednesday, the stream has been rescheduled to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 20.

Mayor Announces Emergency Rules for Maui County

Mayor Michael Victorino announced a number of Public Health Emergency Rules effective as of 7:45 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2020, directed toward limiting the gathering of groups of people and curtailing vehicular transportation except for essential activities or operation of essential business or government functions, such as travel to and from work and medical appointments.

 “We need to take dramatic action to limit the spread of this infectious virus,” Mayor Victorino said. “We cannot do this alone, so we’re asking our community to follow these rules and look out for one another as we face this unprecedented crisis.”…

Molokai Community Health Center is announcing several updates to the operations of their facility in response to the COVID-19 outbreak including Medical, Dental, Behavioral Health, WIC and Ka Hana Pono programs and services, effective immediately.

VISITOR POLICY:

1 visitor per patient is welcome Children under 12 years old are not allowed unless receiving care as a patient

TESTING LOCATION / ACT CLINIC:

Hours of operation for the Acute Care Treatment (ACT) Clinic: Monday thru Friday – 8:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
