Elizabeth Nani Aki Street was born on Jan. 28, 1933 in Ho’olehua, Molokai and died on Feb. 26, 2022 in Seattle, WA. She is survived by sons Butch, Carl and Eric; daughters Gail and Doris; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and sister Mahiki Lankford. She was preceded in death by husband Duane Street and parents William and Annie Wahinealii Aki.

Burial will be on Saturday, May 28th, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Homelani Cemetery.…

Franklin Delano Leary

Franklin Delano Leary, 81, of Hoolehua, Molokai went home to Jesus on March 11, 2022 at the Molokai General Hospital. He was born on Jan. 30, 1941 in Brainerd, Minnesota. Franklin is survived by his wife Margaret Kahaunani “Peggy” Keahi-Leary, wife of 36 years and a native of Molokai. He also has two daughters Christine and Cindy, brothers Clifford and James Leary of San Diego, California, and many nieces and nephews.

Franklin is predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Audrey Haller Leary; only sister Patricia A. Leary Miller; and brother Robert A. Leary.

Molokai was his dream come true.  It became his home in 1990 when Peggy transferred from Honolulu Post office to Hoolehua Post Office, where she retired.…

I was born in Pu’uhoku in 1928, where my grass roots began. I am the 4th child amongst 12 children of Petronilo and Paula Bicoy. I still remember the good old days when everything did not cost so much. This card from my daughter, Nat, brought back memories of yesteryears.  I had a wonderful child’s life, with all my four sisters and seven brothers. We had a loving home with God as our head of our family. I got married in 1946 and have a beautiful family of my own.…

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Steven Borsella, Sr. of Hopewell Junction, NY on February 8, 2022. Alan was originally from Ho’olehua, Molokai, Hawaii. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964 upon graduation from Molokai High School. Alan served his country during two tours in Vietnam from 1966-1968 as a helicopter crew chief with the 155th Air Assault Helicopter Company. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran. Alan married the love of his life, Elaine, on April 26, 1969. They spent 52 years together and raised their children, Malia and Alan Jr., in New Rochelle, NY.…

Penney Keolaokekua Galam, 48, of Kaunkakai, Molokai gained her angel wings peacefully at Queens Medical Center on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021.

Keola, as she was known to her ohana and friends, was born on Aug. 2, 1973 at Maui Memorial Hospital to Doreen Mapuana (Keohuloa) Galam and Gordon Wayne Galam.

She is survived by her grandmother Esther; mother Doreen; brothers Gordon “Kili Boy” Galam, Cliffton Scott Galam and Ted James Galam; her children Kayla, Karlie, Kealiiokamalu Galam, Kaipo- Louis and Kaianne DeMello Galam; along with many ohana and friends. Keola is met by her father, grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins in heaven.…

Gwendolyn Amabel Higgins

Gwendolyn Amabel Higgins, 79, of Waimanalo, Oahu died on Sept. 24, 2021. Gwen was born in Ho’olehua, Molokai on Sept. 26, 1941, to Edith and Charles Meyer. She had three siblings, Yola M. Forbes (David), Charles S. Meyer (Carolyn), Robert P. Meyer (Nancy).

Gwen is survived by her daughters Debra Bush (Mike) and Robyn Trueman (Evans); sons Albert Higgins (Sandy) and Christopher Higgins (Jannet); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Robert Meyer; cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Gwen will be remembered as a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunty, niece, cousin, and friend to all who knew her.…

Ann Misako Fontes, 78, of Pahala, died Nov. 22, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 3, 1943, in Kalaheo, Kauai, she was a former resident of Kaunakakai, Molokai and had worked at Molokai High School and retired from the University of Hawaii at Hilo Extension Services/U.E.

She was preceded in death by husband, Franklin “Mac” Fontes and son, Derek Fontes. She is survived by granddaughter, Cherish M. (Jesse) Kailiawa of Pahala; great-grandson, Ke’ao Kailiawa of Pahala; great-granddaughter, Anelalani Kailiawa-Quinn of Pahala; brothers, Owen (Gail) Yamaguchi of St. Louis, Mo., Howard (Joan) Yamaguchi and Dennis (Madeline) Yamaguchi of Kauai; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.…

Elmer Kaihehau Chu

Elmer Kaihehau Chu was born Nov. 1, 1930 on the Kaai Homestead in Kalamaula, Molokai. He passed peacefully in Los Angeles on July 21, 2021. Elmer was the oldest of five children of Lihue Kaai Chu and Arthur K. Chu, DDS.  After attending Holomua School he attended Kamehameha School for Boys and graduated in 1948. He and his friends enjoyed caring for their horses and spending free time roaming Kalamaula Homesteads, Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove and the shoreline of Kalamaula. He spoke of exciting and enjoyable days working in the pineapple fields as part of the teen “hoe Hana” gang under Grandpa David Kaai’s supervision each summer.…

William Scotland Harris

William (Bill) Scotland Harris passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, June 28, 2021. Bill was born Aug. 1, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland where he grew up with his sister, the late Gloria D. (Harris) Moore and brother, the late Clarence J. (Sonny) Harris.

After graduating from high school, Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1952. Bill later made California his home where he moved through the management ranks at the Department of Corrections, Kaiser Steel and California Steel.

In 1967, the late Irene Harris and Bill welcomed their son Scott Landon Harris. In 1976 Bill and the late Dorothy (Dottie) Harris and Chris Harris became a family.…
