Molokai Flooding

Molokai experienced flooding last night and this morning, and a flash flood advisory remains in effect this afternoon. Puko`o firefighters responded to a flooded east end home in the middle of the night last night, when a couple awoke to knee-high water in their house, according to Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. The fire crew assisted the couple in securing their possessions. Other nearby properties are also flooded, but those homes are built off the ground.

Molokai’s Mother Marianne Cope was green-lighted for sainthood by Pope Benedict XVI in December, after confirmation of a second miracle was attributed to her.

Now, the date is official for Mother Marianne to join St. Damien as Molokai’s second saint. Residents of Kalaupapa have already been planning for the celebration, and some will travel to Rome for the canonization.

Five others will also be canonized the same date as Mother Marianne, including Kateri Tekakwitha, a Mohawk Indian from New York state.…

Where Can I Find the Paper!?

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

By Todd Yamashita, Molokai Dispatch Publisher

Many of you (ourselves included) are still adjusting to our new distribution schedule. After increasing our print run two weeks ago, it’s still not as easy as we would like to get ahold of an issue of The Molokai Dispatch.

One of the frustrating challenges we’ve faced is keeping up with the 50 or so locations we currently deliver to. After much deliberation, we’ve decided to limit drop-off sites to our highest-traffic locations, with preference to advertisers. This change will allow us leave larger quantities of papers in places you are most likely to frequent.
