Boys Volleyball Wins Match

“If the season came to an end Friday night, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way but to coach against my great friend for years, Ross Morita [Lanai head coach],” said Molokai Head Boys Volleyball Coach Hale Domingo after his Farmers beat Lanai 26-24, 25-15 and 25-23 at The Barn in Ho’olehua. “Friday night was never about winning or losing, it was about enjoying the moment.”
Molokai improved to 3-0 on the season but found out that their game Saturday was postponed by the HHSAA statewide spring sports suspension due to the COVID-19 public health threat.
Domingo was happy with his team’s play.
“We got out of a lot of sticky situations and most of the night I let the boys take over the game not knowing if it was the last game of the season,” he said. “The first set was a nail bitter, the second set we gained a little momentum and in third set I let all the boys play. If this was the last game of the season, I wanted it to be a memorable one.”
Molokai is scheduled to host the Maui Interscholastic League Division II Volleyball Tournament next month, but they will have to wait to see what will happen next. If spring sports get cancelled, Domingo is very appreciative of all the help he receives.
“If this is the end of our season I just like to thank a few people, much mahalo to Lee and Arlene Derouin for always holding it down, Eric Scala and Amanda Labriola for taking care of our athletes, the fans who are the best in the world, the parents who allow their kids to be with me day in and out, my boys, I wouldn’t trade them for anything and my coaching staff, for years they got my back and many more to come, and of course my wife and son, without them I cannot coach as hard as I do.”
