Coming into the new year, many Molokai High School (MHS) teams were poised to continue their stellar seasons.

After competing against top teams in the Punahou Invitational in late December, the MHS boys basketball team was back in action on Molokai with two games against Kihei Charter. Celebrating senior night on Friday, the boys put up big numbers in a 46-29 win over Kihei, with Kaizen Torres-Umi Napoleon and Tyshonn Harper leading the scoring for the Farmers. Saturday’s rematch featured more of the same, with the Farmers taking a decisive 52-40 win. This time it was Braylen Colon leading the offense with 23 points. The 6-2 Farmers will take on undefeated Seabury Hall on Maui next week.

Girls soccer also had a stellar weekend, going 2-0 against Kulanihakoi. In Friday’s game, the Lady Farmers posted a 2-1 victory, with goals from Shandee Tabilangan and Patience Brown Davis. Saturday’s rematch ended in a high scoring 4-3 victory for MHS.

Over the weekend, Boys soccer took on Kihei Charter in two close matches. In Friday’s game, the Farmers dropped a tight game, 5-4, to Kihei. In Saturday’s rematch, the Farmers came out likewise just short in a 2-1 loss.

Just before the new year, MHS girls wrestling traveled to Oahu to compete in the Pa’ani Challenge, which is the largest female wrestling competition in the nation. Molokai wrestlers came away with various top finishes: Hila’i Kapuni won the novice 110 division, Waile’a Ward took second in the novice 115 division, Jazlyn Boswell placed third in the novice 145, and Masina Borden-Phillips came away with second place in the open 190 division.
