Baseball Ends Winning Streak

The Molokai High School Boys Baseball team traveled to upcountry Maui last weekend for games against Seabury at Makawao. On Friday, the Farmers lost a tough game in the bottom of the seventh inning, with a score of 4-3. It was their first MIL loss in 40 games. Molokai had won 39 straight MIL games.

Kairos Torres-Umi pitched a good game and had a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh but Seabury scored two runs to win the game. The Spartana’ Ben Belew had a bloop single over third base for the walk off win. Molokai was held to only one hit by Belew and his brother Drew, who started the game and pitched five plus innings. The Farmers loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth inning, but Drew Belew got Aaron Rapanot to pop out to second base on the first pitch. All of Molokai’s runs were unearned.

The bats came alive for five hits on Saturday and the Farmers (3-1) beat the Spartans 5-0 behind Nainoa Kaahanui on the mound. Kaahanui threw a complete game shutout with six strikeouts and is 2-0 on the season. Kekai Adachi was two for two at the plate. Seabury is 3-1 on the season and tied for first place with Molokai early in the MIL DII season.

Molokai hosts Lanai for three home games this week Thursday at 3:30 p.m., Friday  at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m., also celebrating Senior Day, at Duke Maliu Park.
