All-Star Duo
Two Farmers named D-II Basketball All-Stars
Though the Farmers finished Maui Interscholastic League runner-ups last season, Molokai High Basketball players David Rapanot and Hauoli Falealii achieved high honors. They were named to The Maui News All-Star first team for Division II.
“They have high spirits and work really hard on the court,” said Coach Lester Delos Reyes, who has been working with the Molokai High Farmers for the past five years. “They set good examples for the other guys, which makes the coach’s job a lot easier.”
Hauoli Falealii, a junior in his third year on the team, leads the Farmers as co-captain and point guard. He is described by coaches as a well-rounded player, good leader and hard worker.
“He’s your model player,” said assistant coach Rick Schonely. “We’re looking forward to him leading MHS to an MIL title for his senior year.”
David Rapanot, while only a sophomore, has proven himself on the court as a leader and co-captain. At the last game of their regular season, Rapanot hit a shot at the buzzer to win the game against Lanai High 35-33.
“When it’s game time and you need to score, stop, or pass, David Rapanot is the guy to do it for you. He rises to the occasion,” said Schonely.
The boys were nominated and voted upon by Division II coaches. They are joined by Lanai’s Michael Domiquel and Seabury’s Rocky DeLyon and Shane Jacob.
Molokai Senior Eddie Ringor also received honorable mention.
