Akaku Invites You to Meet the Candidates
Akaku News Release
With the State Primary elections nearing, it is imperative for every voter to get to know the candidates and what they stand for. Akaku: Maui Community Television has been working diligently to give you that opportunity. Akaku has given every candidate – from U.S. Senator candidates to candidates for Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) Trustees and the Board of Education (BOE) contenders – a chance to share who they are, where they come from and what they stand for.
Akaku has contacted each of the candidates and asked them to come into our studio to record a short message to the voters. To ensure fairness among all, each individual was given a 3-minute time limit, no editing was done and much effort was put into making sure each person was shot identically as far as backdrop, lighting and framing of the shot. This daunting task was led by Akaku Director of Productions, Emily Sullivan and crewed by Akaku’s talented student interns. “It was a tremendous learning experience and exciting to be working in a field with unfamiliar people who could be tomorrow’s leaders,” said intern Dana Fulton.
To hear from what could be your future leaders, tune into Channel 54 from Thursday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 12 every night beginning at 7 p.m. The segments are grouped by contest and district categories (State, County, BOE/OHA) and will be arranged in the order they appear on the ballot. The sequence of each category will rotate every day. Meet the Candidates is also available on-demand on our website at www.akaku.org. Also, during election week all of Akaku’s election coverage will be on a continuous loop on Akaku Channel 53. Don’t miss out on this must-see video voter guide.
