Action Packed MIL Weekend

This past week, Molokai High School (MHS) competed in several Maui Interscholastic League (MIL) Division II finals. In close matches, the Farmers fell just short of the MIL crown in several sports.
For boys volleyball, the Farmers hosted the MIL tournament at home. The Farmers came out strong against Lanai on Thursday, sending the Pine Lads home early with a 3-1 victory. The boys matched up against Seabury Hall for the final. In one of their strongest performances of the season, the Farmers pushed Seabury Hall to a fifth set, but ultimately lost 3-2, finishing as runners up in the MIL tournament.
Girls softball was coming off of two strong victories against Hana, 18-3 and 23-8, heading into the MIL tournament. The 5-3 Lady Farmers took on Hana again in the first round, easily beating the Dragons 17-1. The Lady Farmers then played Lanai in the finals, where Lanai took a 20-14 victory and the MIL title. MHS will have a chance to qualify for the state tournament via a play-in game against a yet to be determined opponent.
MHS baseball came into MILs with some serious momentum. In the semi-finals, the Farmers dispatched Kulanihakoi High School in a close 7-6 match before gearing up for a title fight with Seabury Hall. The Farmers had the ability to win the tournament on Friday, however, Seabury Hall was able to squeak out a 4-3 win and force a tie breaker. In the rematch, Seabury Hall was able to put some distance on the Farmers, taking a 7-2 win and the MIL championship. The Farmers will likewise contest a play-in game for the state tournament against a to be determined opponent.
Girls flag football and tennis were likewise in action in the MIL tournaments. In their first season, flag football qualified for the MIL tournament and made it all the way to the semi-finals with a thrilling 26-25 victory over Kekaulike. Khloe Bicoy, Kaia Yamashita, Lovea Halaniak and Tyra Coelho-Kelekolio all scored touchdowns in the win. The Lady Farmers ultimately fell to Kamehameha Schools Maui 26-12 in the semi-finals.
For tennis, Chloe Tancayo contested the singles at MILs with Chloe Chuan and Malie Kaahanui playing in the doubles tournament.
