2 Wins for Softball on Lanai

The Molokai Lady Farmer Softball team traveled to Lanai last weekend and continued their undefeated season with two wins over the Pine Lasses at Lanai City.

On Friday Molokai (4-0) held off a Lanai (2-2) rally in the bottom of the seventh to win 6-5. Cahl Horner pitched a complete game two hit victory and was also 2-4 at the plate. Head Coach Kawehi Horner said both teams played well.

“Friday was a good day and it turned out a close one after a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh but our defense and Lanai’s defense held it down,” he said. “Both sides were strong on defense.”

On Saturday, the Lady Farmers gave up six runs in the top of the first but came back strong to win 14-6 and remain undefeated. Camille Ledesma had three hits and was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Brooke Keliihoomalu was 2-2 with a triple and Sydney Rawlins tripled and drove in two runs. Nadia Augustiro had a double and a single.

Senior Keliihoomalu was proud of her teams tough road wins.

“It was a great experience for us all,” she said. “We’ve been working hard this past two weeks that we had off, which made us even hungrier and excited to play. I am very proud of how well my teammates have done and I am very thankful for our coaches.”

Horner has his team playing well and is always looking for improvement as the team gets ready to finish the regular season and head to the MIL Championships.

“Our goal Saturday was to stay steady and focused,” he said. “Discipline was the key ingredient to hitting the ball better [Saturday] than we did [Friday]. It was awesome to see the girls able to identify their struggles so fixes could be made. We also focused on being able to take and treat each inning as if it was the first inning of the game so no stress or struggles of the past would hold a damper on any of them so that they may be able to make plays, get hits and stay aggressive and smart running the bases.”

Next up for the Lady Farmers are the last two games of the regular season at Seabury this weekend in Makawao. The MIL DII Girls Softball Tournament is April 20-22 at Patsy Mink Field in Kahului.
