Occupational Therapy Position Available

Pakolea Rehab News Release

Jobs on Molokai are scarce, and unless you open your own business or work in agriculture, the future may seem bleak to the residents of our small island. However, there is a glimmer of hope for a dedicated individual interested in the healthcare field. Pakolea Rehab is offering a unique opportunity for a Molokai resident interested in pursuing a career in healthcare as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, or COTA.

Pakolea Rehab is offering a paid position upon graduation. We are looking for dedicated, caring, and hard-working individuals willing to attend Kapi`olani Community College in Fall 2013 to complete this two-year program for an Associates Degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Although we have received inquiries from the neighbor islands regarding openings on Molokai, we want to hire Molokai residents! Our community needs the economy boost and our patients need help!

According to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), “occupational therapy assistants work under the direction of occupational therapists in treating patients with injuries, illnesses, or disabilities through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. They help patients develop, recover, and improve skills needed for daily living and working.”

Types of treatment plans include upper extremity rehabilitation, teaching patients how to use special equipment such as showing a patient with Parkinson’s disease how to use devices that make eating easier, improving strength and range of motion, balance and fall prevention, assisting with home safety assessments, in-home teaching and training to maximize functional independence and much more.

Pakolea Rehab is located at 2 Kamoi Street in Kaunakakai, across the Drive Inn near the Dispatch! Stop by or call Shauna Russell, DPT or Kanani Adolpho at 553-5199 for more information.
