Molokai Lions Club News Release

Two major events have occupied the Molokai Lions Club for the past several months. One has passed and one is fast approaching. The second annual Walk for Sight on Molokai was held on Sept. 28 and the Halloween Costume Contest will be held on Oct. 31st.

The Walk for Sight on Molokai was very successful, netting the club nearly $2500 to keep its vision programs on target. These programs include bringing the team of Maui doctors from Maui Optics to Molokai to help screen preschool and elementary students. The funding will also help the Retina Vision Van project and assist the community with financial aid in vision when necessary. All money donated during this walk stays on Molokai.

The club thanks our corporate sponsor, Monsanto, and specifically Dawn Bicoy, for securing this donation. Kaunakakai Elementary School along with Principal Janice Espiritu gave a donation through collection jars in the various classrooms. Many thanks to Teri Waros of Kalele Book Store for allowing the Molokai Lions Club to use the store front as its event headquarters, to Lee Mott for his continuing support with our banner, to the Molokai Leo Club under the direction of Julia DeGeorge and Malia Lee, to the many Lions and their companions, and most importantly to the support of the more than 60 residents of the community who donated money as well as participating in the walk. To you all, we say mahalo for your support and your understanding of the mission of the Molokai Lions Club to serve the community of Molokai to the best of our effort. Lion Bob Dreyer chaired this event and will also be available to accept further donations. You can reach him at 552-0342 for information.

Halloween right around the corner! The Molokai Lions Club is “thrilled” to be back at the helm in sponsoring its Annual Halloween Costume Contest.
